Missions Committee Youth Missions Trips Youth Missions Trips Trinity Youth Ministry is an integral part of missions at Trinity. The trips we run to locations such as Romania and Greece are frequently a young person's first exposure to both missions and international travel. In addition to the adventure that comes with going to a foreign land, teens and their adult leaders experience the concept of giving of themselves in a very real way. We typically take a trip every two years.
Students help Romanian workers on a church roof in Darmanesti, Romania In August 2007, several high school students, college students, and adult leaders traveled to Romania to serve God in Bacau. Although Romania has a large religious population (Romanian Orthodox), very few Romanians actually know Christ as their personal savior. We combined with a youth group from Leominster Assembly of God to form a unified team of American missionaries. Several of us shared our own testimonies to encourage the believers in Romania. Additionally, we went to several orphanages and just loved on the children, many of whom had serious health problems. We also visited one of the poorest villages in Romania to bring some basic food items and play with the children. We also did some renovation work on Trinity Church. On this trip, we tried something new... communicating with our friends and family back home via the web. Check out www.impact-romania.org to see video blogs and all the messages that were exchanged between America and Romania during our 11 day trip.
The Trinity/Leominster 2007 Team (with some Romanian friends) Our previous trip was in August of 2005. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the building of relationships with the other Christians at Trinity Church in Bacau. We created a bond of love with them that words can't describe. (Although there are rumors that they only like us for our entertainment value.) Working with them, we had the opportunity to provide relief to families after a flood had ravaged a nearby area. We brought gifts of food and water to people who had none. There were some people whose homes were destroyed by the flood, and we were able to help them financially. We also visited an AIDS home and an orphanage and loved on the kids there. We also put our manual labor skills to useworking on a roof for the new church in Darmanesti.
The Trinity Youth Ministry Romania 2005 Team Watch a Video from the 2005 Trip (RealPlayer required) In August of 2003, we went to Romania with Pastor Ray and Trish. We spent some time doing ministry in Bucharest at a burn hospital and the Casa Shalom orphanage. Then we visited the churches at Tg Ocna and Darmanesti, where we led worship and gave testimonies. The following days were spent in Bacau. We did a prayer walk, ministered in the park, and visited some families. We also took a very long road trip to a beautiful waterfall on Sunday. One of the highlights of the trip was some good ol' fashioned manual labor on the Trinity Church in Bacau, which is now a beautiful building being used for God's glory.
The Romania 2003 Team teaches a song to kids in an AIDS home Watch a Video from the 2003 Trip (RealPlayer required) In 2000, Trinity Youth Ministry ventured to Greece to work with Enabling Missions Endeavors. We worked on the Glyfada Christian Center in a suburb of Athens. The Center is a Christian school and church that services many refugee families from the Middle East. We painted and did some mild construction. We also worked in a crowded soup kitchen in Athens. On our free time, we got to visit the amazing sites of Greece including the Acropolis and Poseidon's Temple, as well as a three-island cruise.
The Greece 2000 Team in front of the Parthenon The first international Trinity Youth Ministry missions trip was to Romania in 1999. We stayed with Romanian families every night of the trip. We had many opportunities to give our testimonies and lead worship. We were welcomed very warmly by the Romanians and had an incredible time. |
